I am not even sure where to start this story off. I guess you could say it all started in December or so. I had always wanted to be in a book club. I have always known of people in book clubs and they liked them but finding one is really quite a challenge. To find people that are similar to you who also want to read the same type of stuff is a true challenge. For an avid reader like me it is was an illusive goal.
It was then that I took my desire to the streets, well Twitter actually. I just put out a blanket call to ask if anyone who followed me in Philly would want to start a book club. I was so excited when a girl I had met once or twice said she was in. Then, a few other twitter ladies threw their hats into the ring and we were off. I was so excited. Finally, I was going to be like the adult little me had always wanted to be.
Well, over the course of the next few months we grew to a good size. We enjoy getting together at one another's houses and have discussion about life, boys, family and sometimes even the books we read. The whole experience has been one of the best I have had in Philly since I moved here.
It was from book club, we read a book that inspired this quest I am about to go on. It was "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin. It basically follows Gretchen down a year of betterment to try and find a happier her in the end. This is what got my wheels turning.
Now on the scale of happiness I am slightly above average. I run my own jewelry business, which I had dreamed about since I was little. I have a place I love, a great dog, good friends. All of the things that would make one content in life. After reading the book though I began to wonder if maybe I was not 'taking life by the horns' as it were. Then this quest began to formulate in my head.
While, I will admit it is not entirely firm yet, this post is serving as it's announcement. I decided to undergo a year long journey to try and find a better understanding of me, what makes me happy, as well as things I never knew that would bring me joy.
My goal has always been to lead a life that my grandchildren would not believe possible. I have decided this is the year I am going to start to achieve that resolution.
