I had hoped my September was going to be a time to relax a little and try to treat myself so I would stop burning the candle at both ends. What the month ended up being was basically a practice in dealing with sickness and stress. As noted before my car got crashed by PepBoys and I have had to spend the month trying to get money for my car. (Still haven't received anything but we are finally talking money amounts so that is a HUGE step in the right direction.) I also had to deal with a seemingly never ending trail of sickness culminating with a trip to the ER with a horrendous migraine followed by a spell of complete exhaustion. Add to that a cracked iPhone screen and that is a glimpse into my month. Not at all what I set out for when I decided to take a month for myself and to unwind.
As always though I try to keep my glass half full I have been trying to think of the good I have had this month. I am happy to say that I was able to register for a silent meditation class this month and learned how to properly meditate. It was good to figure out to navigate the skills of meditation. I also was able to spend some time with one of my dearest friends. It was great for her to meet my new guy as well as get to know her guy a little better too. I was also able to find a jewelry studio a few blocks from my house and am officially moved in. Today actually marked the first time I got into the studio and made some new jewelry. So, while there were plenty of bad things to mark this month I am choosing to look at the good things as well.
This all brings me to October and what I am going to focus on for this month. What I decided to do is something I am lovingly calling the act of focusing on my business as a business and as my life as a business as well. The expression of every sole proprietor is that when you act like your business is a business other people will think of it as a business too. I feel like I don't always treat myself like the business owner I truly am. (I do think having my own studio will help with that too, though.) I also want to focus on my life business of bills and money with the same wherewithal that I do while approaching my business. I am hoping that this will help move my jewelry in the direction I want it to. So if you see me this month ask me how my business is doing. Along that same note I would happily do a home truck show for you if you were in the market for some fine handmade jewelry! (It was worth a shot while you were reading anyway!)
